Artist Statement
I am an interdisciplinary artist/writer, committed to making conceptual work in any medium that best represents the idea. I don’t limit myself to working in the white cube and work in response to the context of my surroundings. Using an array of mediums such as installation, performance, video, photography, sound and text I create atmospheres for the viewers to experience.
In my practice I use labour as a meditative process to create atmosphere. This can involve physically making, moving material, singing, reading, researching, writing or sitting quietly. Through these processes I develop ways to concentrate my thoughts and produce work, which enables me to interrogate my areas of interest.
I use these forms of meditation to establish myself in the roles of intermediary, priestess or of shaman(ka) in order to actively seek out the story of the space. I do this by interpreting what I deem to be the resonance, echoes and waves that hold the story. By mixing ancient ritual with modern versions, which I adapt, the primary story unfolds and can then be explored through the aforementioned mediums.
Lately my work has been focusing on the forging of change and that of redemption, which is at odds with the natural order of things and technology.
