This work is about issues people have with breastfeeding in public places as well as a reaction to the fact that it is still illegal (2008) to breastfeed in public places in England but not in Scotland and most everywhere in Europe. I wanted to confront people with their own insecurities and preconceptions. In the performance i breastfed a machine on public transport whilst a portable stereo played loud sucking sounds.
My work is about rituals and the natural. I also often play with the notion of power, which the direct nature of performance allows. It is my belief that by confronting the public with situations they are uncomfortable with or at least surprised by, will inspire conversation and hopefully further understanding on this topic.
